Press meet on release of MPOWER
A Press Conference was organized on 25th February'2008. Director Health Services Dr.Bhabani Sankar Tripathy inaugurated the programme and briefed about Governments initiative in tobacco control in the State. He lamented over the slow progress of COTPA notification but assured to activate the entire process. Apart from this he shared the WHO Report on Global Tobacco Epidemic with the media and explained the objective of this Press Meet. He appreciated Aparajita's proactive role in initiating tobacco control activities at all levels. Ms.Itishree Kanungo made a presentation on the WHO Report and its various recommendations along with national and state level prevalence of tobacco use with facts and figures. Mr.Kedareswar Choudhry one of our spokesperson in tobacco control discussed about the social impact of tobacco use followed by presentation of Dr.Sanjay Panda on health impact of tobacco use in Orissa context. The media was also keen to publish the issue as it is going to affect millions of lives in the coming days. Next day the issue was covered in almost all the leading newspapers of Orissa.
